Guido Baselgia

Silvan Faessler Fine Art GmbH represents the artworks of Guido Baselgia since spring 2007.

Guido Baselgia, the photographer who was born in Engadine, has achieved an independent position in contemporary photography since his first individual exhibition Hochland in the year 2001 at the Museum of Art Chur and has received particular attention. “The result can simply be called a masterwork of photographic creation in Switzerland…” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).

Baselgias artistic work is focused on the landscape of his origin, the Engadine, and is marked by an intense natural power, the northern of Finland and of Norway and the arid landscape of the Bolivian highlands. Far away from any life Baselgia faces absolute uneventfulness, stones, ice and light. This is the creation of brand new images of landscape and pictures of light, photography in the own sense, taken with his large format camera.

“Hochland” and “Weltraum”, Baselgias groups of works, have been showed during the past several years in multiple individual or group exhibitions. They have been showed, amongst others, at the International Triennial of Photography in Finland (2003), at the Kunsthalle Erfurt (“Hochland”, 2003), at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2004), at the Kunsthaus Zug (“Weltraum”, 2004), at the Helmhaus Zürich (“Weltbilder”, 2005) and recently at the Kunsthaus Zürich (In den Alpen, 2006).

Baselgia shows works from his latest series entitled “Silberschicht [silver emulsion]” at Museum Bellpark in Kriens/Switzerland ( from March 9 to Mai 4, 2008, along with the projection “Erdzeit [earth time]”, set to music by a Arthur Schneiter composition. The exhibition is accompanied by the illustrated book “Guido Baselgia. Silberschicht”, edited by the reknown Hatje Cantz publishers.
